Motovun, the the best-preserved medieval town in Istria, is 277m above sea level and 18 km from the sea. Known for its cultural monuments, vineyards and truffles it has recently become a gathering place for artist from all over the world.

For several years, in July, Motovun has successfully hosted its own International Film Festival (MFF). In May it holds a European Hot-Air Balloon Competition and in October there is the acclaimed Festival of Wine and Truffles.
